Identifying a hornet's nest and acting correctly

Anyone who finds a European hornet's nest in their garden or on their balcony is not allowed to simply remove it themselves.

We are here for you to identify, advise on, and remove or relocate the nest.

How can you identify the European hornet?

Typical characteristics of the native hornet:


  • large wasp species (up to approx. 3.5 cm)
  • yellow-brown and reddish coloration
  • humming flight
  • active from spring to autumn

Hornet nest discovered – what to do?

If you see a large nest in a tree, on the facade or on the roof:

  • Keep your distance
  • Do not disturb the animals
  • Do not remove the nest yourself.
  • Contact a specialist company
